01 / Which martial art?

A martial art
built for real life.

Preston has plenty of martial arts clubs: karate, taekwondo, BJJ, kickboxing and MMA. Most of them are sports, with rules, rounds and competitions. Krav Maga is different. It takes the most effective striking, grappling and escape techniques and trains them for real situations: close range, in normal clothes, often against someone bigger than you.

That makes it a strong choice if your main goal is to look after yourself, to get fit doing something with a purpose, or to give your child genuine confidence. If you mainly want to compete, a sport style might suit you better, and we'll happily tell you so.

02 / For parents

Kids' martial arts
in Preston.

Our junior classes are about confidence first. Children learn to stand tall, use their voice, keep their distance and stay calm under pressure, alongside simple, age appropriate techniques for getting away from trouble. There's no fear based teaching, ever.

Sessions are structured and fun, with plenty of movement, partner drills and games that build coordination and focus. Kids from 5 to 16 train together on Thursdays from 6:15pm, and the coach scales every drill to age and size.

The adult class starts straight after at 7:00pm, so if you fancy training yourself, you're already there.

03 / For adults

Self defence classes
in Preston.

The adult class follows the Krav Maga Global curriculum, scaled for civilians. You'll learn to strike effectively, escape grabs, chokes and holds, deal with threats from weapons and more than one attacker, and recognise and avoid trouble before it starts.

Techniques rely on leverage, timing and targeting rather than size or strength, which is why so many women train with us. Contact is light and controlled, especially early on, and every session doubles as a solid workout.

Classes are led by head coach Kev, with seventeen years in Krav Maga and full adult and children's instructor qualifications, supported by coaches Adam, Daz and Phil.

What age can my child start?

From age 5. Juniors and teens aged 5 to 16 train together on Thursdays from 6:15 to 7:00pm, with drills scaled to each child's age and size. Parents are welcome to stay and watch.

Is Krav Maga a martial art?

Yes. Krav Maga is a modern martial art and self defence system developed in Israel. It has no competitions or rules, so training focuses on practical technique for real situations rather than winning points.

Is it legal to learn Krav Maga in the UK?

Yes, completely. UK law allows you to use reasonable force to defend yourself, and our classes always put avoiding, escaping and de-escalating first.

Am I too old or unfit to start?

No. Adults of all ages and fitness levels train together and you set your own intensity. Most people start as complete beginners and get fitter as they go.

Where are the classes?

Penwortham Priory Academy, Crow Hills Road, Penwortham, Preston, PR1 0JE, just over the Ribble from the city centre, with a free on site car park.

Can I train at your other venues too?

Yes. We also train Monday to Wednesday evenings in Blackpool and Saturday mornings at YMCA Thornton, and your trial works at any venue. See every venue →
